Some people consider the concept of monarchy undemocratic as the monarch has a great deal of functions and prerogatives just due to the office the head of state is in purely by accident of birth. He or she takes serious decisions by signing the bills, dissolving or summoning the Parliament, appointing the PM, influencing the outcome of elections, declaring war and making peace, etc.

As for the opinion of the British on the monarchy, Queen’s approval ratings are really high. She is considered hardworking and a good ambassador for Britain. The majority (70%) of young people (18 to 24) say they won’t vote for a republic. Britain still has a monarchy because ‘’it seems extraordinary natural to most British citizens’’ (The Independent). The monarch is thought to be experienced and give a sense of stability and unity.

Некоторые люди считают, что концепция монархии недемократична, поскольку у монарха есть много функций и прерогатив из-за должности, в которой глава государства находится чисто случайно, по факту своего рождения. Он или она принимает серьезные решения, подписывая законопроекты, распуская или созывая парламент, назначая премьер-министра, влияя на исход выборов, объявляя войну и заключая мир и т. д.
Что касается мнения британцев о монархии, рейтинги одобрения королевы действительно высоки. Ее считают трудолюбивой, а также хорошим послом Британии. Большинство (70%) молодых людей (от 18 до 24) говорят, что не будут голосовать за республику. Британия все еще имеет монархию, потому что «это кажется необычайно естественным для большинства британских граждан» (The Independent). Everyone knows that queen has the power to choose a prime minister or dissolve parliament, but in reality she does not have these powers. British people think that young royals spoiled the reputation of monarchy. But they understand that democracy and constitutional monarch as not perfect but the best that man had yet created.

Все знают, что у королевы есть власть выбрать премьер министра или распустить парламент, но в реальности, у нее нет такой власти. Британцы считают, что молодые монархи испортили репутацию монархии. Но они понимают, что демократия и конституциональная монархия хоть и не совершенна, но это лучшее, что создал человек.
