Chemistry is the science that studies matter, the chemical elements the matter is composed of, and how the properties of the matter change (g) when it interacts with other matter and energy.

Matter consists of atoms which are often called (a) the building blocks of everything.

Atoms are composed of tiny particles – (h) electrons, protons, and neutrons.

Protons carry a positive electrical charge, electrons carry a negative electrical charge and neutrons carry (f) no electrical charge at all.

The atom has the nucleus and the electrons (d) that rotate around it. The nucleus of an atom is formed by protons and neutrons clustered together. In natural conditions, an atom has (e) the same number of protons and electrons.

There are three common states of matter: (c) gases, liquids, and solids. States of matter differ in the way (b) the molecules are arranged at the molecular level, but not in the structure of the molecules themselves. Plasma is also a state of matter but it is uncommon on the Earth.
