Из стихов великого русского поэта Н. А. Некрасова мы можем многое узнать о крестьянских детях в России XIX века. Жизнь их была очень нелегкой. Дети рано вставали и помогали родителям в их тяжелом труде: кормили животных, работали в поле, собирали в лесу грибы и ягоды. Об их интересах, любимых играх и занятиях в свободное время писал и великий русский писатель И. С. Тургенев. Так, он ярко описывал, как дети любили после работы посидеть вечером у костра, рассказывая страшные истории о духах и домовых.

Children got up early and helped their parents with their hard work: they fed the animals, worked in the fields, and collected mushrooms and berries in the forest. The great Russian writer I. S. Turgenev also wrote about their interests, favourite games and pastimes in their free time. For example, he vividly described how children loved to sit by the fire in the evening after work, telling scary stories about spirits and house spirits.
